2024 Year in Review
Hey Health Techies!
It’s easy in healthcare to only think about how far we have left to go.
But today I’d like to highlight just how far we’ve come this year, and some companies that are poised to keep the momentum going in 2025.
Earlier this month the CB Insights Digital Health 50 list came out. Every year this list seeks to highlight the most promising digital health companies of the year. Is it the end all be all of companies that will be a success in the future? Almost certainly no, but there are a few things I take away from it every year.
Micro insights
If you are someone interested in a career in health tech (which I suspect you are), this list can be a great jumping off point for researching companies in your job search. Companies on this list tend to be performing well and are often hiring around the time of publishing. I’ve even included a few jobs on the board this week from a couple of these companies and will continue to source jobs from these companies into 2025.
Macro insights
I also find it interesting to track how the categories on the list change over time. As an example, the “Clinical Intelligence” category (aka AI) absolutely exploded this year compared to last.
2023
2024
Other 2024 trends
Continued direct-to-consumer programs from pharma companies (example Ro and Eli Lilly partering up)
Many patients headed into their providers to ask about weight loss medications— some seeing their PCPCs for the first time in awhile. This sparked an increase in other diagnoses that were likely present but undiagnosed for patients that had been previously avoiding or prolonging the interval between checkups.
CGMs went mainstream and are now available over the counter for those that are interested in tracking their glucose levels
Apple made some big strides in the space, including the introduction of the hearing aid feature in the AirPods Pro 2.
What can we expect in 2025?
These are just my predictions but they’re based in things we’re already seeing here at the end of 2024.
More partnerships. I expect that we’ll continue to see really interesting partnerships emerge. Customer acquisition is costly, but that cost can be tempered when you get in front of a partner’s audience and can offer value add to a product or service that they already know and love.
More AI. I mean come on, you knew it was coming. I think 2025 will show us just who is ready to make AI a core part of their product.
A renewed interested in health and wellness solutions from consumers. Just when some may think we’re a bit too overloaded with wearables, devices, and apps, I think we’re going to see more interconnectivity and more excitement from consumers, especially as consumer disillusionment with the healthcare system grows. Many will be looking for ways to take their health journey into their own hands.
And what can you expect from Hey Health Tech?
The short answer? More. More content. More resources. More support. 💪🏽
